I thought Myers looked a lot better after being benched for a game. Defense still looked bad, but Enroth didn’t play great either. Hopefully we can figure this out while Miller is gone, hope he can get back soon.

Hey guys its me again. I listened to this episode a few days before the home loss to Tampa. I wasn’t so convinced about your criticism of Ehrhoff in his own end. After watching the game however, I am more inclined to agree, he looked terrible out there in the defensive end. At one point i though I was watching my ex-least favorite Sabre, Chris Butler. What do you guys think can be done to address this?

My personal opinion,last year was an inspiring season for Buffalo Sabres team.While other teams are paying high prices for incoming players, the Buffalo Sabers have spent the last season retaining their talent and filling in the gaps from with the organization. I think we’ll find that Stafford is the key to our chances this year. So long as he is concussed, we have a shot!

For me, the key to this series is in the match-ups and line change advantages. Boston don’t have the depth scoring as Buff seem to have, but my guess is that if Butler plays, they’ll look to get their top line on against him. My hope is that If butler plays, he plays the home games, so we can match the line changes to protect him a bet and perhaps let Sekerja play the away games.

the day before the first game is totally acceptable, thats what i was going to do but after conferring with friends we arrived at the agreement that end of the regular season works too…and yes, i love ennis. i just hope he changes his number to something cooler than 63

I’m definitely growing a beard as well, though I’ll probably shave the day before the first Playoff game. By the end of the week, it should look pretty sweet.

As for this team, who the hell knows how they will do, but I totally agree with your point about Stafford. There is no possible way Ruff can validate starting him over Ennis in the Playoffs. Ennis is just way too good. I can’t wait to watch his career with the team.

It’s been a while, and I just wanted to express my excitement that not only have the Sabres made the playoffs, they are on Versus tonight and that means I can watch! My year-long rant on the NHL television partners continues though, as NBC has refused to run a Sabres game, which baffles me. Wouldn’t you put the team led by the US Olympic hero on your NATIONAL telecast? I guess NBC stand for No Brains Central. Great show as usual guys, and I look forward to PLAYOFF episodes!

I’m a Sabres fan living deep inside Bruins territory, so this is a refreshing season so far.
I think attempting to put a single pin in what has made the Sabres successful so far this season is a mistake a lot of people are making. Yes, Miller is playing quite possibly the best he has in his life, and is perhaps the best goaltender in the world right now. Calling him the best hockey player in the world, as I have read in several articles, may be unfair: comparing goalies and skaters on the same scale is a bit out there. Defense has tightened up compared to recent years, largely due to young Myers eating minutes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, while composing himself like a veteran in his prime. Myers also sets the bar higher for the older defensemen if they want to share in that playing time. The re-addition of Mike Grier to the roster brings some needed grit and leadership to assist Rivet in the locker room, as well as on the ice. But to me, one of the biggest changes has been that the Sabres’ young (ish) players have finally seemed to realize that this is their team, and it’s time to act like it. Pominville, Roy, Vanek, and Gaustad are all guys still in their 20s that have finally outgrown the “I’m young and new, tell me what to do” mentality and taken things upon their own shoulders. Speaking of Gaustad, he and Kaleta are showing teams that third and fourth liners can score too, they’re not just bruisers out there to take up space. Conversely, while Vanek, Roy, and Pommer haven’t been putting up the numbers they’re capable of, I’ve seen them play much grittier in the corners, and forecheck much harder (and smarter) than in recent years. Having Tim Connolly consistently healthy doesn’t hurt either. This may be a result of a bit of a shift: while the Sabres are still a fast and skilled team, it seems they’ve moved a bit away from the run and gun mentality, and are working things from the goal out now. The beneficiary being Miller who can be more confident that shots are getting blocked and rebounds cleared out.

I guess answers aren’t always so east….or maybe I’m just over-thinking things.

Again, my comment has nothing to do with the current episode of Sabrecast, but I was wondering if anyone checked out the photo gallery from the Bruins Legends game from January 2nd. Former Sabre Captain Pat LaFontaine (My all-time favorite NHL player, BTW) played in the game, and I thought it was cool that he wore his black Sabre pants, gloves, and helmet. It was a nice, albeit subtle way, to get the Sabres to the 2010 Classic.

Well, boys, I was able to quit my crabbing about the Sabres on TV for a night since I got to watch them on local Chicago TV. Fans around here crabbed about their local team’s lack of TV coverage for years, as the Blackhawks used to only air road games for years! Not only was it great to see a Sabres game, but a Sabres win was the icing on the cake. A weekend of gloating to all my friends and family was in store, and was it fun. I was glad to see Miller get a night off. Beating the ‘Hawks is a feat, and using the backup goalie makes it an even more impressive victory.

That’s a good point. They do often focus on the big stars and the big teams, but I can understand why: they are just trying to draw in as many viewers as possible. I actually think NHL on NBC is the worst.

I haven’t had any major issues with Versus programming, but then I don’t rely on it for my hockey fill. I have heard that they actually get the best ratings when Buffalo and Minnesota play, but I don’t know how many times they get shown in relation to so say Pittsburgh.

Thanks for reading my e-mail on the episode! Just to clarify, though ESPN does not air any actual games, my frustration with them stems from their coverage of the league. If the game does not involve Crosby, Ovechkin, or the Red Wings, they do not seem to be interested. My beef with Versus is similar. I appreciate the times Buffalo is featured on Versus, but too often their “Game of the Week” features at least one of the aforementioned teams from my previous posting.

I am not sure either whether the money paid to Connoly was too much, but I am glad that they made an effort to keep one of the players that they have developed. I like the Moore deal, especially if the Sabres can resign him. I am apathetic on the Tellqvist deal, so long as Lalime plays like he did last night. I am ok with Kotalik beong dealt, as he never really excited me anyway.

I truly enjoy Sabrecast. Living in Chicago makes it really hard to follow my favorite team. Sabrecast helps a lot. Thanks!
