Gearing Up For Another Season

Hey guys,
It’s been awhile. After the Sabres failed to make the playoffs last season, Matt and I decided to take the summer off from podcasting. The first season of SabreCast was a huge learning experience for us. We started off really strong, podcasting after almost every game, but, ultimately, it got to be too much. We ended up taking a hiatus during the holidays and when we came back, we took a much less active approach. I think that worked better for us and for the show.
Still, the podcast was a lot of work and could be hard to make time for. At the end of the Sabres’ season, we were pretty bummed and thought about closing up shop altogether. But as the summer started to roll on and we had the draft and free agency and we started getting excited about the Sabres again. So, we’re coming back for another season and we are getting really excited.
We’ve purchased a new microphone to help improve audio quality and we are contemplating a new theme song. Matt is an amazing pianist and I’ve been really bugging him to do another theme song. In our second season, we will take on a more simplified approach. We want to make the podcast what we first envisioned it to be: two fans talking about the Sabres. We’ll probably drop a lot of the game recaps and analysis, because, let’s face it, you have already seen the game and you know what happened. We just want to keep it light and fun. And this season, we REALLY want to encourage more listener feedback.
September is going to be a really busy month for me, but we are going to try to get in two podcasts before the start of the regular season and then pick up with an episode-a-week format. So, we’ve got a format, new equipment, and a little experience. Now we just need to hope the Sabres give us something good to talk about.
Go Sabres!
Mike
