SabreCast #38 – Success Without Vanek
Sunday, February 22nd, 2009 6:17 pm by Mike
In this week’s episode of SabreCast, we discuss the Sabres’ found moderate success without All-star Thomas Vanek in the lineup, the injury to Ryan Miller, and the general play of the team. This episode also features our new theme song.
Episode Recap
This week, the Sabres went 2-1, beating the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-1 and the New York Rangers 4-2, but losing to the Philadelphia Flyers 6-3. We finally saw the team as whole step up to fill the huge scoring gap that Vanek has left.
The defense did a great job getting pucks to the net and slumping forwards like Clark MacArthur, Danny Paille, and Jochen Hecht finally started contributing to the score sheet.
However, we also saw Ryan Miller get injured in the Rangers game, so next week (at the very least) poses a new and more difficult challenge for the team.
