The Buffalo Sabres rebounded from their recent lapse in a big way against the Washington Capitals on Saturday night at HSBC Arena. Ryan Miller received his first shutout of the season and Thomas Vanek scored two goals in the Sabres’ 5-0 win. Other goals came from Pominville, Roy, and Paille.

Game Synopsis
- The Sabres finally got off to a quick start with Vanek scoring 1:12 in the game. Roy and Pominville also scored in the first period and the Sabres outshot the Capitals 14-7.
- Tim Connolly joined the Sabres for his first game of the season and notched as assist on Roy’s goal. His creativity was very effective down low.
- Ryan Miller played a great game, stopping all of Washington’s 29 shots, and getting his first shutout of the season.
- The Sabres mixed up the lines with Connolly’s return and it worked out well, igniting many players that haven’t been putting up the numbers we were expecting.
- Solid defense and smart play in their own zone translated into good offensive chances and the win. The Sabres dominated played and dictated the pace of the game.
- Notables: Alex Ovechkin missed the game because he is visiting his ailing grandfather in Russia.
